Bruton Primary School

Welcome

Welcome to Bruton Primary School, where we are focused on raising achievement by working together.

Welcome to our website, we hope it will give you an insight into our school. Our school is in Bruton, a small historic town situated in the Brue Valley in South Somerset.

All of our staff and governors work hard to make our school one that is safe and nurturing as well as stimulating and exciting for our children. Our new curriculum encompasses the demands of the Curriculum 2014 which is enhanced and developed to match the needs of our children through a range of Quests – We believe that all children have the potential to become confident and independent learners. We try to support them strive for this and start them on a journey of exploration that will last them a lifetime. This enquiry based learning is supported by the development of Personal, Learning and Thinking skills (PLTs) which are skills believed to prepare our children for the world in which we send them.

We are fortunate to have amazing school grounds – our classrooms frame the brightly painted playground we call the quad and there is also an amazing school field and top playground which have a range of wooden play equipment and a very large sandpit. We have a range of beds for growing plants and vegetables at the front of the school and behind our key stage 1 classrooms as well as a key hole garden built by our children and our Zambian link school visitors, an eco-friendly greenhouse made of plastic bottles, an iron age round house and an outdoor classroom. We are currently developing the school pond and are reinstating our school swimming pool (set to be completed by summer 2016).

The Juniper Hub (reception) has been developed and established and embraces child initiated learning both inside and outside. The outside area has been updated and enhanced and is a truly inspiring place for our youngest children to explore and learn together.

At Bruton Primary School we raise achievement by working together. We want our children to develop a sense of self-worth and to become positive and successful learners and future members of society. Our Quests encourage them to focus on local, national and global enquiry and we link as much as we can with the local community involving our parents in their children’s learning by inviting them into school to celebrate, share and discover together. We try to create a joint endeavour – a shared journey – with the same thing firmly at the core of that journey – our children.

Bruton Primary School is a happy, vibrant school full of happy, vibrant children and adults – I am very proud to be the Head of School here and would welcome the opportunity to show you around and share what makes us great with you.

Please feel free to contact the school and arrange a visit. We look forward to meeting you.
